Was the Starter System Check performed?

  1. Place the automatic transmission range switch in the PARK position.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the START position and hold.
  3. Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal C2 of the starter solenoid switch and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

Greater than 9.5 V

Go to Step 3

Go to Step 4

Repair or replace the starter solenoid switch. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement in Engine Electrical.

Is the repair or replacement complete?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the START position and hold.
  2. Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal Z of the ignition switch and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

  1. Locate and repair an open or a high resistance in circuits FA50, FA501, FA500, and/or FA700.
  2. If these circuits are OK, replace the automatic transmission range switch. Refer to Manual Shift Shaft Position Switch Replacement in Automatic Transmission.

Is the repair complete?

Use the DMM to measure the voltage between terminal Y of the ignition switch and a known good ground.

Is the measured voltage within the specified value?

B+

Go to Step 7

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Switch Replacement - On Vehicle Steering Wheel and Column On-Vehicle Service.

Is the replacement complete?

Go to Step 9

  1. Locate an open or a high resistance in circuit A503.
  2. Repair the open or high resistance in circuit A503.

Is the repair complete?

--

Go to Step 9

  1. Connect all of the connectors and components that were disconnected.
  2. Check the starter for proper operation.

Does the engine crank?

--

System OK
