Removal Procedure
Tools Required
• | J28467-450 Universal Engine Support Fixture Adapters |
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the battery negative cable.
- Raise the vehicle and suitably support. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the following starter
motor lead components:
• | The terminal nuts (1, 2) |
• | The battery cable terminal lead |
• | The starter solenoid terminal lead |
- Remove the RH catalytic converter. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the RH engine mount
nuts (1).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the resonance chamber to throttle body ducts.
- Install the J 28467-A
with the J28467-450
adapters to the RH of the engine.
- Raise the RH side of the engine about 38 mm (1.5 in).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the engine mount (4) from the engine mount bracket and
the front crossmember.
- Remove the engine mount bracket bolts.
- Reposition the bracket.
- Remove the starter motor
bolts (2, 3).
- Remove the starter motor (1).
Installation Procedure
- Install the starter motor
(1) to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the starter
motor bolts (2, 3).
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
- Position the engine mount
bracket on the vehicle.
- Install the bracket bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the engine mount (4) to the engine mount bracket and the
front crossmember.
- Partially lower the vehicle.
- Lower the engine:
• | Have an assistant guide the mount into place while lowering the
engine. |
• | Inspect that the engine mount locator tab (3) engages in the front
crossmember slot. |
- Install the resonance chamber to throttle body ducts.
- Raise the vehicle.
- Install the RH engine mount nuts (1, 2).
Tighten
• | Tighten the upper nut to 40 N·m (30 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the lower nut to 55 N·m (41 lb ft). |
- Install the RH catalytic converter. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Install the following
starter motor lead components:
• | The battery cable terminal lead |
• | The starter solenoid terminal lead |
• | The terminal nuts (1, 2) |
Tighten
• | Tighten the battery cable terminal nut to 13 N·m
(115 lb in). |
• | Tighten the starter solenoid terminal nut to 4 N·m
(35 lb in). |
- Lower the vehicle.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Reprogram all applicable accessories as required. Refer to Reprogramming Accessories After Battery Disconnect
.
