Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the battery negative cable.
- Remove the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Remove the coolant heater, if equipped. Refer to
Coolant Heater Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the generator cooling duct.
- Remove the field coil
terminal nut and lead (1).
- Remove the battery terminal nut and lead (2).
- Remove the following generator
mounting components:
9.1. | The upper mounting nut (4) |
9.2. | The lower mounting nut |
9.3. | The lower mounting bolt (2) |
- Push out the upper mounting bolt through the generator and the
bracket.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the generator (3).
Installation Procedure
- Position the generator
(3) in the mounting position.
- Raise the vehicle on a suitable support. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Insert the upper mounting bolt (1) into the generator.
- Install the lower mounting bolt (2).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the lower
mounting nut.
Tighten
Tighten the lower mounting bolt and nut to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).
- Install the upper mounting nut (4).
Tighten
Tighten the upper mounting bolt and nut to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the generator cooling duct.
- Install the field coil
terminal lead and nut (1).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3.5 N·m (31 lb in).
- Install the battery terminal lead and nut (2).
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the coolant heater, if equipped. Refer to
Coolant Heater Replacement
.
- Install the drive belt. Refer to
Drive Belt Replacement
in Engine Mechanical.
- Install the intake air resonator. Refer to
Intake Air Resonator Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable nut to 13 N·m (115 lb in).
- Reprogram all applicable accessories as required. Refer to Reprogramming Accessories After Battery Disconnect
.
