Removal Procedure
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the negative battery cable.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the splash shield bolts.
- Remove the splash shield.
- Remove the A/C compressor
hose strap bolt (1).
- Remove the AIR injection
crossover pipe bracket nut (6) from the generator mounting bolt. It may be
necessary to hold the generator bolt on the back side of the generator
when removing the nut (6).
- Remove the AIR injection crossover pipe bushing nut (1), located
on the left side of the engine, from the bracket.
- Remove the AIR injection crossover pipe clamps from the rubber
hose connections (2).
- Remove the AIR injection crossover pipe from the rubber hose connections.
- Position the AIR injection crossover pipe (4) out of the way to
enable removal of the drive belt.
- Use a 15 mm wrench to rotate the tensioner pulley (5) clock-wise
while sliding the belt (7) from the water pump pulley.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Clean the drive belt surfaces and accessory drive pulleys.
Installation Procedure
- See the drive belt routing
diagram to install the serpentine drive belt.
Important: Ensure the drive belt is properly aligned and seated into the grooves
of the accessory drive pulleys.
- Rotate the drive belt tensioner clock-wise with a 15 mm wrench.
- Route the drive belt over the top of the water pump pulley last.
- Release the drive belt tensioner and recheck the drive belt for
proper seating in the accessory drive pulleys.
- Reposition the AIR injection
crossover pipe (4).
- Install the AIR injection crossover pipe to the rubber hose connections
(2).
- Install the AIR injection crossover pipe clamps to the rubber
hose connections.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the AIR
injection crossover pipe bushing nut (6) to the generator bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the AIR injection crossover pipe bushing nut to 12 N·m
(108 lb in).
- Use a wrench to counterhold the generator bolt on the back side
of the generator to tighten the AIR injection crossover pipe support bracket
nut to the generator bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the AIR injection crossover pipe support bracket nut (generator
bolt) to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).
- Install the A/C compressor
hose strap bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the A/C compressor hose support strap bolt to 8 N·m
(71 lb in).
- Install the splash shield.
- Install the splash shield bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the splash shield bolts until fully seated. Do not strip the
splash shield bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
- Reprogram the applicable accessories. Refer to
Reprogramming Accessories After Battery Disconnect
in Engine Electrical.
