Was the Wiper/Washer System Check performed?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  2. Turn the windshield wiper/washer switch to the OFF position.
  3. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  4. Use a DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal E of the windshield wiper motor connector and a known good ground.

Does the voltage measure at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step  3

  1. Locate a short to B+ in CKT M9 and/or in CKT M808.
  2. Repair the short to B+ in CKT M9 or in CKT 808.
  3. If the CKTs are OK, replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Is the repair complete?

Go to Step  11

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor relay K8 connector.
  3. Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector.
  4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Does the windshield wiper motor operate?

Go to Step  5

  1. Locate a short to B+ in CKT B7, CKT B810, or CKT P2.
  2. Repair the short to B+ in CKT B7, CKT B810, or CKT  P2.
  3. If these circuits are OK, replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Is the repair complete?

Use the DMM in order to measure the voltage between terminal 1 the windshield wiper motor relay K8 and ground.

Does the voltage measure at the specified value?

B+

Go to Step  7

  1. Locate a short to B+ in any of the following circuits:
  2. • CKT FB1
    • CKT FB3
    • CKT FM99
  3. Repair any shorts to B+ in the CKTs.
  4. If the CKTs are OK, replace the windshield wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect all of the disconnected connectors.
  3. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  4. With the wipers operating, stop the wipers in the PARK position by turning the ignition switch OFF.
  5. Important The wiper motor sends a ground signal to the wiper relay just before the motor enters the park position. When testing for the ground signal, the wipers can be stopped slightly before park position or in the park position, but they must not go past the park position.
  6. With the wipers in the park position, use the DMM in order to measure the voltage between the windshield wiper motor relay K8 terminal 5 (black meter lead) and B+ (red meter lead).

Does the voltage measure within the specified range?

B+

Go to Step 9

Replace the windshield wiper motor relay K8.

Is the repair complete?

  1. Locate an open or short to B+ in CKT U6 and/or in CKT U10.
  2. Repair any open or short to B+ in CKT U6 or in CKT U10.
  3. If the CKTs are OK, replace the windshield wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement

Is the repair complete?

 

Go to Step  11

  1. Reconnect all of the connectors and the components that were disconnected.
  2. Verify that the windshield wipers operate properly.
