Removal Procedure

J 42067 Rear Main
Oil Sealer Installer
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing
any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to
the vehicle or its components.
- Remove the flywheel. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
- Center punch the steel ring of the rear main
oil seal.
- Carefully drill a small, shallow, pilot hole into the steel ring
of the rear main oil seal. Use caution when drilling the hole so as not to
damage the engine components on the opposite side of the rear main oil seal.
- Screw in a self-tapping screw.
- Use pliers to pull the rear main oil seal to remove the rear main
oil seal.
- Clean all sealing surfaces.
Installation Procedure
- Coat the lip of the rear main oil seal with a small amount of
chassis grease, GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.
- Use the J 42067
to install the rear main oil seal.
- Install the flywheel. Refer to
Engine Flywheel Replacement
.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable and reprogram the applicable
accessories.
