Removal Procedure

Tools Required

    • J 36660-A Torque/Angle Meter
    • J 42098 Crank Hub Torx Socket
  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Assembly in Automatic Transmission.

  2. Object Number: 159202  Size: SH
  3. Use the J 42098 to counterhold the crankshaft to remove the flywheel bolts.
  4. Remove the flywheel from the crankshaft.
  5. Clean the rear crankshaft flange.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 159202  Size: SH
  1. Install the flywheel to the crankshaft.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Important: 

       • Use new flywheel bolts.
       • Coat the new flywheel bolts with thread retaining compound, GM P/N 12345493 or equivalent.

  3. Install the flywheel bolts.
  4. Tighten

        • Use the J 42098 to counterhold the crankshaft.
        • Use the J 36660-A to tighten the flywheel bolts to 65 N·m (48 lb ft) + 30 degrees + 15 degrees. Refer to
