- Loosen the adjuster nut (1) on the parking brake lever shaft (2)

in the at-rest position (facing towards the rear of the vehicle).
Important: Clean and lubricate the exposed threads on each side of the nut before
attempting to turn the adjusting nut.
- Measure the exposed shaft from the nut.
- Record the measurement.
- Turn the adjustment nut on both rear parking
brake self adjusters until both sets of parking brake shoes just contact the
parking brake drum with no significant drag.
- Install the tires and wheels. Refer to

in Tires and Wheels.
- Tighten the adjuster nut (1) on the rear parking brake lever shaft
(2) until braking effort occurs while ensuring the wheels can still turn.
- Perform the following inspection:
12.1. | Ensure the rear wheels still turn with the parking brake lever
set on the 4th notch. |
12.2. | Ensure the rear wheels are tight with the parking brake lever
set on the 7th notch. |
12.3. | Additionally, ensure the braking effort is equal at both rear
wheels. |
- The adjustment procedure is complete when the above inspections
are correct.
