Important: Before attempting the Fuel Tank Leak Check, place a dry chemical (Class
B) fire extinguisher near the work area.
Before removing the fuel tank for a suspected leak, make sure that the
fuel lines are not leaking onto the tank. When you remove the tank, make sure
that the fuel is not leaking around the following components:
• | The filler pipe and the vent hoses |
• | The upper filler pipe assembly or the fuel filler cap |
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to
Fuel Tank Draining
.
- Remove the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank and EVAP Canister Replacement
.
- Plug all of the outlets as follows:
• | Plug the opposite end of the hose. |
• | Install the fuel lever sender with a new seal. |
• | Plug the fuel feed line and the return line. |
• | Connect a piece of the hose to the tank EVAP vent valve. |
• | Plug the opposite end of the hose. |
- Submerge the tank in water or apply a soap solution to the outside
of the tank.
- Apply 7-10 kPa (1-1 1/2 psi)
air pressure to the hose on the fuel tank vent line nipple.
