Rear Compartment Lid Replacement Oldsmobile

Caution:  When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Remove the rear compartment lid trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Inner Panel Trim Replacement .



2. Disconnect the electrical connectors (5) from the rear compartment lid latch assembly.
3. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) from the rear compartment lamp.
4. Release the clips (6) that retain the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
5. Remove the wiring harness (3) from the rear compartment lid (1).



6. Remove the assist rods (1) from the rear compartment lid.



7. Remove 2 nuts (3) from each hinge (2).
8. Use a helper in order to remove the rear compartment lid (1) from the vehicle.

Caution:  When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

1. Use a helper in order to install the rear compartment lid (1) to the vehicle.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Install 2 nuts (3) into each hinge (2).

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).




3. Install the assist rods (1) to the rear compartment lid.



4. Install the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
5. Install the clips (6) in order to retain the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
6. Connect the electrical connectors (5) to the rear compartment lid latch assembly.
7. Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the rear compartment lamp.
8. Install the rear compartment lid trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Inner Panel Trim Replacement .
9. Adjust the lid. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Adjustment .

Caution:  When a rear compartment lid hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

2. Remove the rear compartment lid latch assembly. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .



3. Disconnect the electrical connectors (5) from the rear compartment lid latch assembly.
4. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) from the rear compartment lamp.
5. Disconnect the electrical connector (6) from the lock cylinder.
6. Release the clips (4) that retain the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
7. Tie a string to the wiring harness (3).
8. Pull the harness from the rear compartment lid, leaving the string completely through the rear compartment lid (1).
9. Remove the wiring harness (3) from the rear compartment lid (1).



10. Remove the assist rods (1) from the rear compartment lid.



11. Remove 2 nuts (3) from each hinge (2).
12. Use a helper in order to remove the rear compartment lid (1) from the vehicle.

3. Install the assist rods (1) to the rear compartment lid.



4. Install the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
5. Use a string in order to pull the wire harness through the rear compartment lid (1).
6. Remove the string from the harness (3).
7. Install the clips (4) in order to retain the wiring harness (3) to the rear compartment lid (1).
8. Connect the electrical connectors (5) to the rear compartment lid latch assembly.
9. Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the rear compartment lamp.
10. Connect the electrical connector (6) to the lock cylinder.
11. Install the rear compartment lid latch assembly. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .
12. Install the rear compartment lid trim. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Inner Panel Trim Replacement .
13. Adjust the lid. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Adjustment .
