Hood Hinge Replacement Oldsmobile

Removal Procedure

    Important: In order to aid in the adjustment of the upper and/or lower hood hinge after installation, mark the location of the upper and/or lower hood hinge on the following locations:

       • The underside of the hood panel
       • The fender

  1. Remove the hood panel. Refer to Hood Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 283537  Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolts (3) retaining the upper hood hinge to the hood.
  4. Remove the upper hood hinge.

  5. Object Number: 283538  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts (1) retaining the lower hood hinge (2) to the fender.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 283538  Size: SH
  1. Install the lower hood hinge (2) to the fender.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts (1) in order to retain the lower hood hinge (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts (1) to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  5. Install the upper hood hinge to the hood.
  6. Install the bolts (3) in order to retain the upper hinge.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  8. With the aid of an assistant, install the hood panel to the vehicle. Refer to Hood Replacement .
  9. Install the hinge pivot bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  11. Close the hood. Examine the fit.
  12. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surface areas after the hood replacement.

  3. Remove the bolts (2) retaining the upper hood hinge (1) to the hood.
  4. Remove the upper hood hinge (1).

  5. Object Number: 283538  Size: SH
  6. Remove the bolts (1) retaining the lower hood hinge (2) to the fender.

  1. Install the lower hood hinge (2) to the fender.

  6. Install the bolts (2) in order to retain the upper hinge (1).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  8. With the aid of an assistant, install the hood panel to the vehicle. Refer to Hood Replacement .
  9. Install the hinge pivot bolts.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  11. Close the hood. Examine the fit.
  12. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surface areas after the hood replacement.
