Removal Procedure

    Caution:  When a hood hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. In order to prevent damage, apply tape at the following locations:
  2. • The edges of the fenders
    • The hood
  3. Remove the hinge cover.

  4. Object Number: 283517  Size: SH
  5. Remove the 2 assist rods (1).

  6. Object Number: 283532  Size: SH
  7. Remove the 2 hinge pivot bolts (3).
  8. Remove the hood (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 283532  Size: SH
  1. With the aid of an assistant, place the hood (1) into position.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the hinge pivot bolts (3) in order to retain the hood (1).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts (3) to 10.5 N·m (93 lb in).

  5. Install the assist rods (1).
  6. Align the hood as needed. Refer to Hood Adjustment .
  7. Touch up any exposed or unpainted surface areas after the hood replacement.
