Caution: Be careful when you handle a sensor. Do not strike or jolt a sensor.
Before applying power to a sensor:
• Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface. • Position the sensor horizontally on the mounting surface. • Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle. • Tighten all of the sensor fasteners and sensor bracket fasteners
to the specified torque value.
Removal Procedure
- Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .
- Remove the upper tie bar support assembly. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (2) from the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor harness connector (1).
- Disconnect the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor harness connector (1) from the pigtail connector.
- Remove the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor mounting fasteners (3).
- Remove the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor (2).
- Remove the clips from the pigtail and route the pigtail through the front end sheet metal.
Installation Procedure
- Route the pigtail through the front end sheet metal and attach all of the pigtail clips.
- Install the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor (2).
- Install the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor mounting fasteners (3).
- Connect the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor harness connector (1) to the pigtail connector.
- Install the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) (2) to the inflatable restraint front end discriminating sensor harness connector (1).
- Install the upper tie bar support assembly. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement in Engine Cooling.
- Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Tighten
Tighten fastener to 11 N·m (94 lb in).
