J 21854-01 Pivot Pin Remover

  1. Remove the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Housing - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  2. Remove the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  3. Remove the pivot & pulse switch assembly only. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  4. Remove the ignition switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  5. Remove the ignition lock actuator and lock bolt assembly only. Refer to Steering Column Lock Cylinder Set - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  6. Remove the tilt spring assembly. Refer to Tilt Spring - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .

  8. Remove the lower spring retainer (4).
  9. Remove the lower bearing spring (3).

    Remove the lower bearing seat (2).

    Remove the adapter and bearing assembly (1).

  10. Remove 2 pivot pins (1) using J 21854-01  (2).

  11. Object Number: 362097  Size: SH
  12. Remove the steering column tilt head assembly with the steering shaft assembly from the steering column support assembly.

  13. Object Number: 362098  Size: SH
  14. Remove the steering shaft assembly (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1).

  15. Object Number: 295954  Size: SH

    Important: Mark the race and upper shaft assembly and the lower shaft assembly in order to ensure proper assembly. Improper assembly causes the steering wheel to be turned 180 degrees.

  16. Tilt the race and upper shaft assembly 90 degrees to the lower shaft assembly and disengage. If necessary, remove and discard the old centering sphere and spring.

  17. Object Number: 362099  Size: SH
  18. Remove 4 TORX® head screws.
  19. Remove the steering column jacket support assembly from the steering column jacket assembly.
