Circuit Description

The circuit for the passenger window switch on the driver door consists of the following components:

    • The left front power window switch assembly
    • The simple bus interface (SBI)
    • The driver door module (DDM)

The left front power window switch is different from the other window switches. This switch contains an internal microprocessor. The window switch assembly reports all switch activity to the DDM. The diagnostic software for DTC B2217 is contained in the DDM. This diagnostic program runs once every 300 milliseconds. Faults involving the DDM or the SBI may set other DTCs and effect the operation of the power door locks or the outside rearview mirrors.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B2217 will set any time one of the driver door power window switches is continuously closed in either UP or DOWN positions for a period greater than 15 seconds.

DTC B1982 (battery voltage high) and DTC B1983 (battery voltage low) must not be current or the diagnostic will not run.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The switch command will be ignored until the switch command again changes state or the ignition cycles from OFF to RUN.

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

This DTC will set from current to history when the window up input cycles OFF or the power mode changes from OFF to RUN.

The history DTC will clear after 50 ignition cycles.

Use a scan tool in order to clear the history DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

A history DTC is evidence of a intermittent problem.

If DTC B2217 is current, cycle the ignition switch from OFF to RUN. If this DTC is still current, perform the following diagnostics.

Test Description
