The rearview mirror is attached to a support. The support
secures the rearview mirror to the windshield. This window supplier installs
the support using a plastic-polyvinyl butyral adhesive. The service replacement
windshield has the mirror support bonded to the window assembly. Use
the following items in order to install a detached mirror support or
a new part:
• | GM P/N 1052369, Loctite® Minute-Bond Adhesive 312
2-component pack or the equivalent |
• | The original mirror support (prepared per steps 4 and 5
of the installation procedure) or the replacement rearview mirror support |
• | A wax marking pencil or a crayon |
• | A fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper |
Removal Procedure
- Use a wax marking pencil or a crayon in order to mark the position
of the mirror support on the outside surface of the windshield.
- Draw a circle around the mirror support location, on the outside
of the window.
This indicates the cleaning area.
- Clean within the circled area on the inside window surface. Use
paper towel and one of the following cleaners:
- Rub the circled area until the circled area is completely clean
and dry.
- Clean the circled area using an alcohol saturated paper towel
in order to remove any traces of scouring powder or cleaning solution.
- Sand the bonding surface of the rearview mirror support using
a piece of fine grit (320 or 360) emery cloth or sandpaper.
If you are using the original rearview mirror support, remove all traces
of the factory installed adhesive.
- Wipe the sanded mirror support using a clean paper towel saturated
with alcohol.
Allow the mirror support to dry.
