Using a scan tool, attempt to establish communications with the driver door module (DDM) and the vehicle theft deterrent (VTD) systems.

Can the scan tool communicate with the DDM and VTD systems?

Using the power door lock switches, operate the driver and passenger door locks.

Do the power door locks operate correctly?

  1. Close both the driver and passenger doors.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Is the DOOR AJAR message displayed?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console

Open the driver door.

Is the DOOR AJAR message displayed?

Go to Step 6

  1. Close the driver door.
  2. Open the passenger door.

Is the DOOR AJAR message displayed?

Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

Is the SECURITY indicator ON or flashing?

Inspect the following circuits for an intermittent malfunction:

    • The driver door jamb switch
    • The passenger door jamb switch
    • Intermittent communications between the DDM or RFA systems
    • The power door lock switches
    • The door lock cylinder switches

Repair the no communication malfunction to the system that could not communicate with the scan tool. Refer to Data Link Communications System Check in Wiring Systems.

  1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
  2. Reconnect or install any connectors or components that were disconnected or removed.
