Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) monitors the cruise control indicator switch. When the cruise on/off switch is pressed ON, the cruise control switch is closed and the signal circuit is low. When the cruise on/off switch is pressed OFF, the cruise control switch is open and the signal circuit is high.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the steering wheel controls switch - left.
  3. Cruise switch ON, test for less than infinite resistance between the steering wheel control supply voltage terminal 1 and the cruise control indicator dimming signal circuit terminal 9 at the terminals of the steering wheel controls switch - left.
  4. If the resistance measured is infinite, replace the steering wheel controls switch - left.
  5. Igniton OFF, verify that a test lamp illuminates between B+ and the cruise control indicator dimming signal circuit terminal 9.
  6. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the cruise control indicator dimming signal circuit for an open/high resistance.
  7. If all circuits test normal, replace the BCM.
