SES Light On, DTC P0442 - Evaporative Emissions - Small Leak Detected Code (Inspect for Leak Between Canister and Filter Assembly)

This bulletin is being revised to change part number information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 08-06-04-020 (Section 06 -- Engine/Propulsion System).

Some customers may comment that the SES light is on. Upon investigation, the technician may find DTC P0442 set.

This condition may be caused by a rolled seal between the filter and canister assembly, causing the canister to be distorted.

Technicians are to perform a diagnosis with the smoke detector and if the leak is found between the canister and filter, replace the canister and filter. To correctly repair this condition, BOTH the canister and filter must be replaced.

1. Refer to SI for introducing smoke into the system.



2. Lower the canister and inspect the vent area between the canister and filter (see image above).
3. If the smoke is coming from between the filter and canister, the O-ring between the canister and filter is likely rolled.
4. Replace the filter and canister as an assembly.
