Reduced Windshield Washer Flow (Reroute Chafed Washer Hose)

Subject:Reduced Windshield Washer Flow (Reroute Chafed Washer Hose)

Models:2008 Saturn VUE

Condition

Some customers may comment on a reduced windshield washer flow.

Cause

For vehicles built prior to August 3rd, 2007, this may be caused by a chafed washer hose under the cowl vent.

Correction

Currently there are two designs for the washer hose routing. Determine which design the vehicle has using the procedure below.

  1. Inspect the washer hose for correct routing.

  2. Object Number: 2048557 Size: SH
    • If the routing is as shown above (First design), refer to Step 2.

    Object Number: 2048559 Size: SH
    • If the routing is as shown above (Second design), the condition is not due to a chafed hose -- continue with normal diagnosis.
  3. Remove the air inlet grille panel. Refer to Air Inlet Panel Replacement in SI.

  4. Object Number: 2048560 Size: SH
  5. Using an 8 mm (5/16 in) drill bit, drill a hole into the air inlet panel. Measure over from old location (1), 100 mm (4 in), to the new location (2).
  6. Replace the damaged section of washer hose and re-route the hose to avoid future damage.
  7. Reinstall the air inlet panel. Refer to Air Inlet Panel Replacement in SI.
  8. Reroute the washer hose and cut to fit, if required.
