Inoperative Steering Wheel Controls Radio Or Cruise Or SIR Code B0012 Or B0013 - keywords air bag column driver DTC Indicator Light Module short SWC switch wire

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Vehicles built Prior to May 2007 (prior to VIN 8S501835) may have an intermittent short to ground at the horn plate within the steering wheel. This short to ground could affect any of the circuits within the wheel, and therefore may affect the function of the cruise, radio steering wheel controls, or the driver's air bag resulting in a B0012 or B0013 SIR Malfunction Code.

Remove the Driver's inflator module and inspect the wiring for a short to ground to the horn plate. Repair wiring as appropriate for the Steering Wheel controls, or replace SIR Coil as needed. Cover any sharp edge at top of horn plate with self-adhesive foam to assure not further short to ground conditions will develop.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
