J 39400-A Halogen Leak Detector

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .

  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Disconnect compressor clutch electrical connector.

    Notice: When servicing the compressor, keep dirt and foreign material from getting on or into the compressor parts and system. Clean tools and clean work area are important for proper service. The compressor connections and the outside of the compressor should be cleaned before any ON CAR repairs, or before removal of the compressor. The parts must be kept clean at all times and any parts to be assembled should be cleaned with a non-petroleum based solvent and dried with air. Use only lint free cloths to wipe parts. Do not allow solvent to enter compressor or hoses.

  7. Remove the pressure relief valve.
  8. Measure and record any PAG oil drained while removing the pressure relief valve.

    This measurement will be used during refrigerant recharging.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate the pressure relief valve O-ring with mineral oil.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the pressure relief valve to the compressor.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the valve to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Connect the compressor clutch electrical connector.
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  8. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  9. Leak test the component using the J 39400-A .
  10. Run the A/C performance test.
