SA9706NE Headlamp
Aiming Chart
System With Two Vertical Adjusters and No VHAD-Device/Visual Aim
• | The vehicle is equipped with headlamps designed to meet the visual aim
requirements according to FMVSS 108. |
• | Each headlamp may be properly aimed in the vertical direction only. The
horizontal aim is preset by the headlamp manufacturer and does not need to be re-aimed. |
• | Turning headlamp adjuster screws V1 and V2 in the direction indicated
by the embedded arrows, represents a change in the vertical aim direction, either
up or down. It is important that both adjusting screws are turned an equal number
of resolutions or parts of resolutions and are turned as well in the same direction.
Failing this requirement leads to improperly aimed headlamps and may cause glare light
for oncoming drivers. |
• | A screen or wall with reference marks is needed in order to adjust the
vertical position of the cut-off line. |
Specifications of the Screen
Use the SA9706NE
headlamp
aiming chart.
• | The screen shall be at least a distance of 7.63 meters (25 feet),
measured from the front of the headlamp lens to the viewing screen. |
• | The ambient light level during the aiming process has to be kept as low
as possible, since the light level has a big influence on the accuracy of the headlamp
aim. |
• | The surface on which the car is parked, has to be leveled and flat. |
• | The screen has to be perpendicular to the floor and the vehicle's longitudinal
axis. |
• | The screen has to be wide enough to provide at least 1 meter of
viewing area to the outboard direction from each headlamp. |
• | The horizontal reference line for headlamps marked with "VOL"
has to be placed 53 mm below the height of the optical axis of the headlamp
at a screen distance of 7.63 meters (25 feet). This represents 0.4 degrees
downward. |
• | The horizontal reference line for headlamps marked with "VOR"
is identical with the height of the optical axis of the headlamp. |
Adjusting the Vertical Aim (Headlamps Marked with VOL)
• | The headlamp aim has to be adjusted using the lowbeam headlamps. |
• | Turn the adjusting screw marked with "V1" in the desired direction,
up or down. The vertical aim is correct when the horizontal cut-off line on the left
side of the light pattern is vertically lined up with the horizontal reference line
on the screen. |
| Caution: The adjusting screws V 1 and V 2 can be turned at the same time
or V 1 before V 2. Never turn V 2 before V 1. This causes
misaimed headlamps.
|
• | Turn the adjusting screw marked
with "V2" by the same number of resolutions and in the same direction
as "V1." |
