Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Ensure the rear compartment lid is closed.
  3. Observe the trunk ajar indicator.

Is the trunk ajar indicator OFF?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Observe the trunk ajar indicator.

Is the trunk ajar indicator OFF?

Go to Step 6

Test the rear compartment lid ajar signal circuit of the rear compartment lid release actuator for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the body control module (BCM). Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage , Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the body control module. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control System.

Replace the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
