Removal Procedures
- Disconnect
the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine
Electrical.
- Remove the lift gate weatherstrip. Refer to
Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement
.
- Lower the rear edge of the headliner. Refer to
Headlining Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the cargo shade by pushing to one side to release and lift up.
- Release the 3 lower quarter window trim retainers and let the panel hang.
- Remove the left tail lamp access panel and Disconnect the electrical connectors.
- Tape one feed wire onto both electrical connectors.
- Remove both the left and right pass through grommets from the body.
- Pull the wires up through the grommet hole on the right and feed the wire
from the back side.
- Remove
the nozzle from the lift gate. Refer to
Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement
in Wiper/Washers Systems.
- Apply tape around the edges of the roof and the quarter panel.
- Remove the lift gate struts. Refer to
Liftgate Strut Replacement
.
- Remove the E-clips from the hinge pins.
- With an assistant remove the hinge pins.
- With an assistant remove the lift gate from the vehicle.
Installation Procedures
- With
as assistant position the lift gate to the hinges.
- Install the hinge pins and the E-clip retainers.
- Install the lift gate struts. Refer to
Liftgate Strut Replacement
.
- Remove the tape from the body.
- Connect the washer hose and pull the feed wire to route the hose if the
old lift gate was reinstalled.
- Pull
the wires through the grommet hole on the right side.
- Remove the feed wires from the electrical connectors.
- Install the left and right grommets to the body.
- Connect the electrical connectors.
- Install the left tail lamp access panel.
- Reposition the lower quarter trim panel.
- Reposition the headliner. Refer to
Headlining Trim Panel Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Install the lift gate weatherstrip. Refer to
Liftgate Weatherstrip Replacement
.
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
in Engine Electrical.
