Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 895188  Size: SH

    Caution: Do not allow smoking or the use of open flames in the area where work on the fuel or EVAP system is taking place. Anytime work is being done on the fuel system, disconnect the negative battery cable, except for those tests where battery voltage is required.

    Notice: Use care in removing the fuel rail assembly to prevent damage to the electrical connector terminals and spray tips. The fuel injector is serviced as a complete assembly only. Support fuel after fuel rail is removed in order to avoid damaging fuel rail components. Since it is electrical, it should not be immersed in any cleaner.

  1. Remove fuel rail. (Refer to "Fuel Rail Removal" procedure in this section.)

  2. Object Number: 896413  Size: SH
  3. Slide fuel injector retainer clip off fuel injector.
  4. Important: Clean the fuel rail prior to removing the fuel injector.

  5. Remove port fuel injector assembly and plug the fuel injector port.
  6. Important: Any time the fuel system is opened for service, the O-ring seals used with related components must be replaced.

  7. Remove fuel injector O-rings and discard.

Installation Procedure

  1. Lubricate new fuel injector O-ring seals with clean engine oil and install on fuel injector assembly.
  2. Install clip onto injector prior to installing injector to fuel rail.
  3. Install port fuel injector assembly into fuel rail, with the fuel injector electrical connector facing upward.

  4. Object Number: 895188  Size: SH

    Important: Press injector into fuel rail until it "clicks" into the retainer clip.

  5. Install fuel rail assembly. (Refer to "Fuel Rail Assembly Installation" procedure in this section.)
