Subject: | Crank No Start, Hard Start, and/or DTC P0017 after Campaign 05522 |
Models: | 2004-2005 Saturn Ion Redline |
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Some vehicles may experience a crank no start or hard start after replacing the Cam Sensor Housing Oil Seal per Campaign 05522. Additionally, DTC P0017 may be present. This concern may be a result of installing the cam sensor housing while the #1 piston is at top dead center on the compression stroke instead of having the #4 piston at top dead center while on the compression stroke as suggested in the campaign. This may also be a result of installing the cam sensor housing with the timing marks on the cam sensor housing and cam sensor housing shaft misaligned.
If the vehicle did not exhibit this condition before the campaign was performed, verify proper installation of the cam sensor housing. The cam sensor housing and shaft should be aligned as shown below and carefully installed with #4 piston at top dead center on the compression stroke. If further details are necessary, refer to the procedure listed in 04-06-01-026.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
