Subject:Manual transaxle gear rattle noise heard during cold ambient temperatures with clutch pedal released (up) and engine RPM 1500-2500. Noise will not be present when clutch pedal is pressed to the floor

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in the PI.

Condition/Concern:

Manual transaxle gear rattle noise heard during cold ambient temperatures with the clutch pedal released (up) and engine RPM between 1500-2500. The noise will not be present when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor. The noise may be misinterpreted as coming from the throw-out bearing

 

Recommendation/Instructions:

Cause: The noise is caused by rattling blocker rings within the transaxle. The condition occurs after cold soak conditions and is not a durability issue.

No repairs are available at this time and no repairs should be performed. Engineering is currently researching the condition and will provide a service repair as soon as one is available.

 

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
