Your odometer shows how far your vehicle has been driven, in either miles (vehicle shipped in the U.S.) or kilometers (vehicle shipped to Canada). The odometer is visible in the top line of the message center display when:

    • Ignition key is in ACC or
    • Ignition key is in RUN, with no message on, or
    • Trip reset stem is pressed with the ignition key in OFF/LOCK.

When messages are on, they are shown in the top line instead of the odometer. To display the odometer, clear each message using the trip reset stem.

Your vehicle odometer is tamper-resistant. You may wonder what happens if a vehicle has to have a new odometer installed. If possible, or when regulations require, the new one has to be set to the same reading the old had. If the odometer cannot register the same mileage as before, it should be adjusted to read zero. A label should then be attached to the driver's door frame indicating, in writing, the prior mileage and date of repair or replacement. If the mileage is unknown, the label should indicate "previous millage unknown."
