To change the headlamps from low beam to high or high beam to low, push the turn signal/multifunction lever away from you.
When the high beams are on, a blue light on the instrument panel cluster will also be on.
You'll find the headlamp control switch here, on the turn signal/multifunction lever.
The headlamp switch controls the following lighting systems:
• | Headlamps |
• | Parking Lamps |
• | Sidemarker Lamps |
• | License Plate Lamps |
• | Instrument Panel Lights |
Here's how your lamp system and switch position work. To operate, rotate the switch to the desired position:
OFF Position : No lights are on. If your vehicle is equipped with the Automatic Headlamp System, you move the switch to this position to turn headlamps or Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) off or on.Pull the lever toward you to momentarily switch to high beam position (to signal that you are going to pass). When you release the lever, the high beam lamps will turn off.
Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) can make it easier for others to see the front of your vehicle during the day. DRL can be helpful in many different driving conditions, but they can be especially helpful in the short periods after dawn and before sunset. Fully functional daytime running lamps are required on all vehicles first sold in Canada.
The DRL system will come on when:
• | The ignition is in RUN, |
• | The headlamp switch is in the OFF or AUTO position, and |
• | The gear select is not in park. |
When you turn on your headlamps, the DRL will switch off and the exterior lights will come on.
As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular headlamp system when you need it. When you turn off the headlamps, the exterior lamps will go out and the DRL will come on again.
To idle your vehicle with the DRL off, move the shift lever to PARK (P). The DRL will stay off until you move the shift lever out of PARK (P).
If your vehicle has a manual transaxle, you must set the parking brake while the ignition is off and then start your vehicle. The DRL will stay off until you release the parking brake.
If your vehicle is equipped with the Automatic Headlamp System, you can rotate the headlamp switch to OFF, and the DRL will turn of.
When it is dark enough outside your automatic headlamps system will come on your headlamps at the normal brightness along with other lamps such as the tail lamps, sidemarker, parking lamps and the instrument panel lights. The radio display will also be dim.
Your vehicle has a light sensor located on top of the instrument panel. Make sure it is not covered, or the headlamps will be on when you don't need them.
The system may also turn on the headlamps when driving through a parking garage or tunnel. This is normal.
There is a delay in the transition between the daytime and nighttime operation of the Daytime Running Lamps and the Automatic Headlamp System so that driving under bridges or night overhead street light does not affect the system. The Daytime Running Lamps and the Automatic Headlamp System will only be affected when the light sensor sees a change in lighting that lasts longer than the delay.
To idle your vehicle with the Automatic Headlamp System off, rotate the headlamp switch to OFF and the automatic lamps will turn off. They will remain off until you turn off and then reset the vehicle. If you rotate the headlamp switch to OFF while the ignition is trill on, the automatic headlamp will turn back on.
Vehicles sold in Canada will turn the Automatic Headlamps System back on when the vehicle is shifted out of PARK (P) for five-speed automatic or VTi variable transmission, or for manual transmissions, when the vehicle begins to move.
The headlamp will remain on for 20 seconds after the ignition is turned off. As with any vehicle, you should turn on the regular headlamp system when you need it.
The dimmer switch and fog lamp button, if equipped, are located on the left side of the steering column.
The dimmer switch, on the left, controls the brightness of the instrument panel lighting. The fog lamps can only be turned on when the parking lamps or the low beam headlamps are on. Press the fog lamp button, on the right, to turn the fog lamps on.
To turn off the fog lamps, press the switch again or turn off the parking lamps or low beam headlamps. The fog lamps go off whenever the headlamps are on high beam. The indicator on the switch will be lit when the fog lamps are on.
