The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment on an engine rattle noise, rough idle, and SES light with DTCs P0016 and/or P0017. This may be the result of a broken timing belt tensioner spring.
Recommendation/Instructions:
If this concern is encountered, inspect for a loose timing belt and broken timing belt tensioner spring. If the timing belt tensioner spring is broken, it will move freely without applying tension to the belt. If a broken timing belt tensioner is found, replace the timing belt and timing belt tensioner using the part numbers listed in the parts catalog.
