Makes 🢒 Saturn 🢒 2009 🢒 AURA 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Electrical 🢒 Battery Positive and Negative Cable Replacement

Removal Procedure

Note: 

   • Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that you are replacing.
   • Always route the replacement cables the same way as the original cables.

  1. Remove the generator control module cover. Refer to Generator Control Module Cover Replacement.

    2. Object Number: 1891301 Size: SH
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  3. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the battery.
  4. Remove the negative battery cable ground nut (1) from the engine block stud.
  5. Remove the negative battery cable ground lead (2) from the stud.

  6. Remove the negative battery cable ground nut (3) from the tie bar stud.
  7. Remove the negative battery cable ground lead (4) from the stud.

    8. Object Number: 1891200 Size: SH
  8. Remove the battery positive cable extension cable nut (2).
  9. Remove the battery positive cable extension lead (3) from the positive battery cable.

    10. Object Number: 1891205 Size: SH
  10. Disconnect the body wiring harness electrical connector (2) from the battery current sensor (1).

    11. Object Number: 1891625 Size: SH
  11. Place the cable assembly on a clean work surface.
  12. Cut the tape (1) securing the negative cable to the positive cable.
  13. Measure from one end of the negative battery cable to the current sensor location. Record this measurement for reference during installation.
  14. Remove the battery current sensor (2) from the negative battery cable.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1891625 Size: SH
  1. Install the battery current sensor (2) to the NEW negative battery cable.
  2. Measure from the same end as earlier, and slide the current sensor to that measurement on the negative battery cable.
  3. Place the NEW negative battery cable (3) next to the positive battery cable (4).
  4. Install NEW tape (1) securing the negative cable to the positive cable.

  5. Connect the body wiring harness electrical connector (2) to the battery current sensor (1).

    6. Object Number: 1891198 Size: SH
  6. Install the negative battery cable ground lead (4) to the tie bar stud.

    7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Install the negative battery cable ground nut (3) to the stud and tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    8. Object Number: 1891301 Size: SH
  8. Install the negative battery cable ground lead (2) to the engine block stud.
  9. Install the negative battery cable ground nut (1) to the stud and tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  10. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
