Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement 9.5 Inch LD Axle

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Remove the drain plug.
3. Drain the lubricant into a suitable container.



4. Remove the fill plug.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




1. Install the drain plug and tighten to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

Note: Add the limited slip axle lubricant additive to the axle before filling the axle with axle lubricant.

2. Fill the axle with limited slip axle lubricant additive and lubricant.

•	Use the proper fluid, refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.

•	For the proper capacity, refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities.




3. Install the fill plug and tighten to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.

Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement 8.6 Inch Axle

1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
2. Clean the area around the rear axle fill plug.
3. Remove the rear axle fill plug.
4. Remove the rear axle cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement.
5. Drain the lubricant into a suitable container.

1. Install the rear axle cover. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement.
2. Fill the rear axle with axle lubricant. Use the proper fluid. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities and Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.




3. Install the rear axle fill plug and tighten to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).
4. Lower the vehicle.
