    • J-44626 Oxygen Sensor 22 mm Socket
    • J-45400 Strut Spring Compressor

Disassembly Procedure

  1. Remove the strut assembly. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement.
  2. Use paint in order to mark the position of the spring relative to the strut assembly-to-knuckle bracket.

  3. Object Number: 851627  Size: SH
  4. Install the strut assembly to the J-45400 Strut Spring Compressor or equivalent. Ensure the hooks are seated on the spring properly.
  5. Compress the spring with the J-45400 Compressor or equivalent.
  6. Caution: Do not allow the absorber rod to rotate during disassembly/reassembly. Use hand tools to keep the absorber rod from rotating. If air tools are used, and the rod is allowed to rotate, damage to the absorber may occur.

  7. Use a wrench in order to hold the threaded piston rod while removing the piston rod nut with the J-44626 Oxygen Sensor 22 mm Socket or equivalent.

  8. Object Number: 1241996  Size: SH
  9. Remove the following components from the strut:
  10. • The strut mount
    • The strut mount bearing
    • The spring upper seat
    • The strut cartridge upper cover
    • The bumper stop
    • The coil spring

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 851646  Size: SH
  1. Install the spring to the J-45400 Compressor or equivalent. Ensure the hooks are seated on the spring properly.
  2. Compress the spring using the J-45400 Compressor or equivalent.

  3. Object Number: 1241996  Size: SH

    Note: Locate the spring to the original position on the spring seat.

  4. Align the match marks and install the spring to the strut.
  5. Install the following components to the strut:
  6. • The bumper stop
    • The strut cartridge upper cover
    • The spring upper seat
    • The strut mount bearing
    • The strut mount

    Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  7. Use a wrench in order to hold the threaded piston rod while installing the piston rod nut with the J-44626 Socket or equivalent. Tighten the piston rod nut to 60 N·m (44 lb ft).
  8. Remove the strut assembly from the J-45400 Compressor or equivalent.
  9. Install the strut assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Strut Assembly Replacement.
