Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle in order to catch the draining fluid.

  2. Object Number: 819768  Size: SH
  3. Remove the cap (2) from the power steering fluid reservoir.
  4. Use a siphon in order to remove the power steering fluid from the reservoir.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  6. Remove the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  7. Remove the right front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
  8. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  9. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  10. Loosen the hose clamp (9) on the power steering pump inlet hose.
  11. Remove the inlet hose from the pump.
  12. Remove the bolt (2) from the power steering pump outlet pipe bracket.
  13. Remove the outlet pipe fitting (1) from the pump.
  14. Disconnect the power steering pressure (PSP) switch connector (3).
  15. Remove the following components from the power steering pump front bracket:
  16. • The 2 nuts (7, 8)
    • The 2 bolts (5, 6)
    • The power steering pump
  17. Remove the bolt and the rear bracket (4) from the pump.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the rear bracket (4) and the bolt to the pump.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 37 N·m (27.3 lb ft).

  3. Place the pump in the power steering pump front bracket.
  4. If the pump does not fit in the bracket, complete the following steps in order to increase the pump-to-bracket clearance:

    2.1. Move the pump to the side.
    2.2. Place a bar of steel on the pump side of a pump bracket bushing.
    2.3. Using a hammer, tap on the bar in order to move the bushing 2 mm (0.1 in).
    2.4. Place the bar on the pump side of the other pump bracket bushing.
    2.5. Using a hammer, tap on the bar in order to move the bushing 2 mm (0.1 in).
  5. Install the following components to the pump bracket:
  6. • The pump
    • The 2 bolts (5, 6)
    • The 2 nuts (7, 8)
  7. Tighten the nuts and the bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 37 N·m (27.3 lb ft).

  9. Verify the pump bracket bushings are against the pump housing.
  10. Important: Verify the connectors are clean.

  11. Connect the PSP switch connector (3).
  12. Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Install the outlet pipe fitting (1) to the pump.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 41 N·m (30.2 lb ft).

  15. Install the outlet pipe clamp bolt (2).
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N·m (69.04 lb in).

  17. Install the pump inlet hose (10) to the pump.
  18. Install the hose clamp (9) to the pump inlet hose.
  19. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  20. Install the right front tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  21. Lower the vehicle.
  22. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  23. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  24. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  25. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  26. Inspect the power steering system for fluid leaks. Repair as necessary.
  27. Install the right front engine splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side .
