Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the knob.
  3. Remove the center instrument trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement.
  4. Remove the instrument compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement.
  5. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement.

  6. Object Number: 845218  Size: SH
  7. Remove the clip and washer, then disconnect the cable end from the shift lever assembly.

  8. Object Number: 845220  Size: SH
  9. Turn the cable lock, then disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever assembly.

  10. Object Number: 845223  Size: SH
  11. Remove the clip, then disconnect the cable end from the shift lever assembly.

  12. Object Number: 845241  Size: SH
  13. Turn the lock, then disconnect the select cable from the shift lever assembly.
  14. Remove the 4 nuts, then the shift lever assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the shift lever assembly, then the 4 nuts.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 12 N·m (9 lb ft).

  3. Install the shift cable into the shift lever assembly, then turn the lock clockwise to lock.

  4. Object Number: 845223  Size: SH
  5. Connect the cable end of the shift cable to the shift lever assembly, then install the retaining clip.
  6. Install the select cable into the shift lever assembly, then turn the lock clockwise to lock.
  7. Connect the cable end of the select cable to the shift lever assembly, then install the retaining clip and washer.
  8. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement.
  9. Install the instrument compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement.
  10. Install the center instrument trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Center Trim Panel Replacement.
  11. Install the knob.
