Note: For environmental protection, used oil and used oil filters must be disposed of at designated disposal sites.
- Remove the oil filler cap.
- Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into a container.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Clean and install the oil drain plug with a new gasket.
Tighten
Tighten to 40 N·m (29 lb ft).
- Using a strap type wrench, remove the oil filter.
- Clean the oil filter installation surface.
- Apply engine oil to the oil filter gasket.
- Lightly screw the oil filter into the engine until the oil filter dose not turn.
- Using a strap type wrench, tighten the oil filter.
- Depending on the work space available, choose from the following:
• | If enough space is available, use a torque wrench to tighten the oil filter. |
Tighten
Tighten to 18 N·m (13 lb ft).
• | If enough space is not available to use a torque wrench, tighten the oil filter a 3/4 turn by hand or use a common wrench. |
- Add fresh engine oil and install the oil filler cap.
- Inspect for oil leaks.
