Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to SIR Warning in the Preface section.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Note: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect the steering wheel module coil wire for any sign of scorching, melting, or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil is damaged, replace it.

  3. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
  4. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  5. Remove the steering column lower trim cover from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  6. Remove the steering column upper trim cover from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  7. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector.

  8. Object Number: 2022864  Size: SH
  9. Release the 3 claws (2) and remove the steering wheel module coil (1) with the steering position sensor.

  10. Object Number: 2022867  Size: SH
  11. Release the 6 claws (2) and 2 pins (1)and remove the steering position sensor (3) from the steering wheel module coil (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Ensure the front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
  2. Note: Make sure the turn signal switch is in the neutral position or turn signal switch pin may be damaged.

  3. Place turn signal switch in neutral position.

  5. Install the steering wheel module coil (1) to the steering position sensor, engage all 6 retaining claws (2) and 2 pins.

  6. Object Number: 2022867  Size: SH

    Note: When installing a new steering wheel module coil, remove the lock pin prior to installing the steering wheel.

  7. Install the steering wheel module coil and steering position sensor(1), engage all 3 retaining claws (2).
  8. Center the steering wheel module coil, if necessary. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Coil Centering.
  9. Connect the steering wheel module coil electrical connector (1).
  10. Install the steering column lower trim cover from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  11. Install the steering column upper trim cover from the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement.
  12. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
  13. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
