Did you review the Instrument Panel, Gages and Console Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Verify that the speedometer and the odometer are inaccurate.

Does the system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

Using a scan tool, test for DTC P0500.

Does the scan tool register DTC P0500?

Go to DTC P0500 or P0503

Go to Step 4

  1. Install the scan tool.
  2. Raise the drive wheels.
  3. Support the lower control arms so that the drive axles are in a horizontal (straight) position.
  4. Start and idle the engine.
  5. Place the transmission in gear.
  6. With the scan tool, observe the Vehicle Speed Sensor parameter in the Powertrain engine data list.

Does the vehicle speed sensor match the speedometer display?

Does the odometer operate properly?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
