Note: The brake fluid level MUST be between the MIN line and the MAX line for the following reasons:
• | In order to provide adequate brake fluid reserve |
• | In order to prevent air from entering the hydraulic brake system |
• | In order to allow the brake fluid to expand due to the heat from the brakes and from the engine |
- Visually inspect the brake fluid reservoir and verify if the brake fluid is between the MIN line (2) and the MAX line (1).
- If the brake fluid level is between the MIN line and the MAX line, do not add brake fluid. If the brake fluid level is above the MAX line or below the MIN line, continue with this procedure.
- If the brake fluid level is below the MIN line during a routine fluid inspection, inspect the brake system for wear and potential brake fluid leaks.
- Slide the hood rear seal (1) to the right and up in order to disengage the clip.
- Disengage the 5 claws (1) and remove the left side access panel.
- Clean the outside of the reservoir and the reservoir cap in order to avoid dirt contamination of the brake fluid.
- Remove the reservoir cap.
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Warning in the Preface section.
Warning: Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Filling the Master Cylinder Caution in the Preface section.
Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.
Warning: Do not overfill the brake fluid reservoir. Overfilling the brake fluid reservoir may cause the brake fluid to overflow onto the engine exhaust components during brake system service. The brake
fluid is flammable and may cause a fire and personal injury if the brake fluid contacts the engine exhaust system components.
- If the brake fluid level is below the MIN mark, the brake pads are not worn, and there are no brake fluid leaks, add Delco Supreme 11®, GM P/N 12377967 (Canadian P/N 992667), or the equivalent DOT-3 brake fluid
from a clean, sealed brake fluid container, to the reservoir (1) up to the MAX line.
If the brake fluid level is above the MAX line, siphon the brake fluid level down to the MAX line.
- Install the reservoir cap.
- Install the left side access panel and engage the 5 claws (1).
- Install the hood rear seal and engage the clip.
