Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement All Wheel Drive and GT

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear disc brake pads and the insulators. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 2013991  Size: SH
  3. Place match marks on the brake pad retainers (5) in order to identify the correct position and orientation.
  4. Remove the brake pad retainers.
  5. Remove the 2 slide pins (2, 8).
  6. Remove the 2 slide pin boots (3, 7).
  7. Discard the boots.

Inspection Procedure


    Object Number: 2014055  Size: SH

    Note: DO NOT use abrasives in order to clean brake components.

  1. Clean the clips (2) and the insulators (1, 3) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.

  2. Object Number: 2013991  Size: SH
  3. Clean the brake pad retainers (5) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
  4. Inspect the components for the following conditions:
  5. • Sufficient rebound
    • No deformation
    • No cracks
    • No wear
    • No rust
    • No dirt
      If the components meet the above conditions, re-use the components.
  6. Clean the following components in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
  7. • The bolts (9)
    • The slide pins (2, 8)
    • The caliper housing (1)
  8. Use unlubricated, compressed air in order to dry the components
  9. Inspect the slide pin bores of the caliper for corrosion and wear. Replace the caliper if the slide pin bores are damaged. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement.

Installation Procedure

  1. If the caliper piston is not compressed into the caliper bore, complete the following steps:
  2. 1.1. Wrap the handle of a hammer with tape.
    1.2. Use the handle of a hammer in order to compress the caliper piston into the caliper bore.

  3. Lubricate the 2 NEW slide pin boots (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  4. Install the slide pin boots to the caliper bracket.

  5. Object Number: 2014047  Size: SH
  6. Lubricate the 2 slide pins (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  7. Install the slide pins to the caliper bracket.

  8. Object Number: 2014034  Size: SH
  9. Align the match marks and install the 2 brake pad retainers (1, 2) to the caliper bracket in the correct position and direction.

  10. Object Number: 2014055  Size: SH
  11. Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the 2 insulators (1, 3).

  12. Object Number: 2014052  Size: SH
  13. Ensure the disc brake grease covers the area where the insulators contact the pads (1).
  14. Install the 2 insulators to the 2 brake pads.
  15. Install the pads and the insulators to the vehicle. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.

Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement Except All Wheel Drive and GT

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear disc brake pads and the insulators. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 2014066  Size: SH
  3. Place match marks on the brake pad retainers (4, 5) in order to identify the correct position and orientation.
  4. Remove the brake pad retainers.
  5. Remove the 2 slide pins (2, 9).
  6. Remove the 2 slide pin boots (3, 8).
  7. Discard the boots.

Inspection Procedure

    Note: DO NOT use abrasives in order to clean brake components.

  1. Clean the insulators (1, 2, 5, 6) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.

  2. Object Number: 2014066  Size: SH
  3. Clean the brake pad retainers (4, 5) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
  4. Inspect the components for the following conditions:
  5. • Sufficient rebound
    • No deformation
    • No cracks
    • No wear
    • No rust
    • No dirt
      If the components meet the above conditions, re-use the components.
  6. Clean the following components in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
  7. • The bolts (1, 10)
    • The slide pins (2, 9)
    • The caliper housing (11)
  8. Use unlubricated, compressed air in order to dry the components
  9. Inspect the slide pin bores of the caliper for corrosion and wear. Replace the caliper if the slide pin bores are damaged. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2014108  Size: SH
  1. If the caliper piston is not compressed into the caliper bore, use a commercially available caliper piston tool (1) in order to turn the piston in as far as possible.

  2. Object Number: 2014111  Size: SH
  3. Turn the piston in order to align the piston groove 90 degrees (a) from a line between the caliper slide pin bores.
  4. Align the piston groove with the protrusion on the brake pad.

  5. Ensure the cylinder boot (1) is installed in the groove of the piston. If necessary, refer to Rear Brake Caliper Overhaul.

  6. Object Number: 2014114  Size: SH
  7. Lubricate the 2 NEW slide pin boots (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  8. Install the slide pin boots to the caliper bracket.

  9. Object Number: 2014090  Size: SH
  10. Lubricate the 2 slide pins (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  11. Install the slide pins to the caliper bracket.

  12. Object Number: 2014087  Size: MH
  13. Align the match marks and install the 2 brake pad retainers (1, 2) to the caliper bracket in the correct position and direction.

  14. Object Number: 2014115  Size: SH
  15. Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the 2 inner insulators (2, 5).
  16. Ensure the disc brake grease covers the area where the inner insulators contact the pads.
  17. Install the 2 inner insulators to the 2 brake pads (3, 4).
  18. Install the 2 outer insulators (1, 6) to the 2 inner insulators.
  19. Install the pads and the insulators to the vehicle. Refer to Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.
