Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement All Wheel Drive and GT
Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear disc brake pads and the insulators. Refer to
Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.
- Place match marks on the brake pad retainers (5) in order to identify the correct position and orientation.
- Remove the brake pad retainers.
- Remove the 2 slide pins (2, 8).
- Remove the 2 slide pin boots (3, 7).
Discard the boots.
Inspection Procedure
Note: DO NOT use abrasives in order to clean brake components.
- Clean the clips (2) and the insulators (1, 3) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
- Clean the brake pad retainers (5) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
- Inspect the components for the following conditions:
| If the components meet the above conditions, re-use the components. |
- Clean the following components in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
• | The caliper housing (1) |
- Use unlubricated, compressed air in order to dry the components
- Inspect the slide pin bores of the caliper for corrosion and wear. Replace the caliper if the slide pin bores are damaged. Refer to
Rear Brake Caliper Replacement.
Installation Procedure
- If the caliper piston is not compressed into the caliper bore, complete the following steps:
1.1. | Wrap the handle of a hammer with tape. |
1.2. | Use the handle of a hammer in order to compress the caliper piston into the caliper bore. |
- Lubricate the 2 NEW slide pin boots (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent.
Refer to

- Install the slide pin boots to the caliper bracket.
- Lubricate the 2 slide pins (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent.
Refer to

- Install the slide pins to the caliper bracket.
- Align the match marks and install the 2 brake pad retainers (1, 2) to the caliper bracket in the correct position and
direction.
- Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the 2 insulators (1, 3).
- Ensure the disc brake grease covers the area where the insulators contact the pads (1).
- Install the 2 insulators to the 2 brake pads.
- Install the pads and the insulators to the vehicle. Refer to
Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.
Rear Disc Brake Hardware Replacement Except All Wheel Drive and GT
Removal Procedure
- Remove the rear disc brake pads and the insulators. Refer to
Rear Disc Brake Pads Replacement.
- Place match marks on the brake pad retainers (4, 5) in order to identify the correct position and orientation.
- Remove the brake pad retainers.
- Remove the 2 slide pins (2, 9).
- Remove the 2 slide pin boots (3, 8).
Discard the boots.
Inspection Procedure
Note: DO NOT use abrasives in order to clean brake components.
- Clean the insulators (1, 2, 5, 6) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
- Clean the brake pad retainers (4, 5) in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
- Inspect the components for the following conditions:
| If the components meet the above conditions, re-use the components. |
- Clean the following components in denatured alcohol or an equivalent brake parts cleaner.
• | The caliper housing (11) |
- Use unlubricated, compressed air in order to dry the components
- Inspect the slide pin bores of the caliper for corrosion and wear. Replace the caliper if the slide pin bores are damaged. Refer to
Rear Brake Caliper Replacement.
Installation Procedure
- If the caliper piston is not compressed into the caliper bore, use a commercially available caliper piston tool (1) in order
to turn the piston in as far as possible.
- Turn the piston in order to align the piston groove 90 degrees (a) from a line between the caliper slide pin bores.
Align the piston groove with the protrusion on the brake pad.
- Ensure the cylinder boot (1) is installed in the groove of the piston. If necessary, refer to
Rear Brake Caliper Overhaul.
- Lubricate the 2 NEW slide pin boots (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent.

- Install the slide pin boots to the caliper bracket.
- Lubricate the 2 slide pins (1, 2) with lithium soap base glycol grease or Silicone Brake Lubricant, or equivalent.

- Install the slide pins to the caliper bracket.
- Align the match marks and install the 2 brake pad retainers (1, 2) to the caliper bracket in the correct position and
direction.
- Apply disc brake grease to the pad side of the 2 inner insulators (2, 5).
- Ensure the disc brake grease covers the area where the inner insulators contact the pads.
- Install the 2 inner insulators to the 2 brake pads (3, 4).
- Install the 2 outer insulators (1, 6) to the 2 inner insulators.
- Install the pads and the insulators to the vehicle. Refer to
