Parking Brake Shoe Replacement All Wheel Drive and GT

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.

  2. Object Number: 818026  Size: SH
  3. Remove the return springs (1, 2).

  4. Object Number: 2030389  Size: SH
  5. Turn the front hold down pin and remove the front hold down spring (1) from the front shoe.

  6. Object Number: 2030390  Size: SH
  7. Pull the front shoe (1) forward.

  8. Object Number: 2030391  Size: SH
  9. Remove the park brake shoe strut (1).

  11. Turn the rear hold down pin and remove the rear hold down spring (1) from the rear shoe.

  13. Remove the shoes (1) with the adjuster and the tension spring.

  15. Remove the shoes from the park brake shoe lever (1).

  17. Remove the adjuster (1) from the shoes.

  19. Remove the tension spring (1) from the shoes.

  21. Remove the park brake shoe lever (2) from the park brake rear cable (1).

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply high temperature lubricant to the metal contact points on the backing plate (1) and on the adjuster (4, 5, 6).
  2. Assemble the adjuster.

  4. Install the rear hold down pin (1).

  6. Install the front hold down pin (1).

  8. Install the park brake shoe lever (2) to the park brake rear cable (1).

  10. Install the tension spring (1) to the shoes.

  12. Install the adjuster (1) to the shoes.

  14. Install the shoes to the park brake shoe lever (1).

  16. Install the shoes (1).

  18. Turn the rear hold down pin and install the rear hold down spring (1).

  20. Install the park brake shoe strut (1).

  22. Place the front brake shoe (1) in the correct position.

  24. Turn the front hold down pin and install the front hold down spring (1).

  26. Install the return springs (1, 2).

  28. Ensure there is no oil or lubricant on the friction surfaces of the shoes (1, 2) or on the brake rotor.
  29. Install the rear brake rotor. Refer to Rear Brake Rotor Replacement.
  30. Warning: Road test a vehicle under safe conditions and while obeying all traffic laws. Do not attempt any maneuvers that could jeopardize vehicle control. Failure to adhere to these precautions could lead to serious personal injury and vehicle damage.

  31. Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level, and dry road.
  32. With the vehicle in motion, pull the park brake lever with 150 N (15 kgf, 34 lbf) of force.
  33. Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 mi) with the park brake on.
  34. Release the park brake and drive the vehicle for 5 minutes in order to cool the park brake system.
  35. Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level, and dry road.
  36. With the vehicle in motion, pull the park brake lever with 150 N (15 kgf, 34 lbf) of force.
  37. Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 mi) with the park brake on.
  38. Release the park brake and drive the vehicle for 5 minutes in order to cool the park brake system.
  39. Drive the vehicle at about 50 km/h (31 mph) on a safe, level, and dry road.
  40. With the vehicle in motion, pull the park brake lever with 150 N (15 kgf, 34 lbf) of force.
  41. Drive the vehicle for about 400 m (0.25 mi) with the park brake on.
  42. Release the park brake and drive the vehicle for 5 minutes in order to cool the park brake system.
  43. Adjust the park brake system. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment.
