The VIM monitors the signal circuit from the SIR module to the VIM air bag status input circuit, and is a input to the OnStar module.
The system voltage is greater then 9 volts.
This DTC is set if the VIM detects a short to ground on its airbag status input.
This DTC is set if the VIM detects transitions occurring on its airbag status input, but cannot determine that these transitions correspond to the Normal signal or the Crash detected signal.
This DTC is set if the VIM does not detect transitions occurring on its airbag status input, indicating that the airbag module is transmitting the abnormal signal, or that the airbag status input is shorted to Battery or Open.
The VIM disables the output to the OnStar module until the next ignition cycle.
• | The current DTC will become history when the request for the output is removed. |
• | The history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles have occurred. |

Note:
⇒ If DTC is set, refer to
Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle. ⇒ If less than the specified voltage, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, Replace the VIM. ⇒ If greater than the specified voltage, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, Replace the VIM.
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
