DEFINITION: This table diagnoses the front wipers are always ON when the wiper/washer switch is turned to the OFF position.

Did you review the Wiper/Washer System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Verify that the front wipers are always ON when the wiper/washer switch is turned to the OFF position.

Do the front wipers operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the front wiper switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the front wiper motor connector.
  3. Test the following circuits for a short to voltage condition at the wiper motor connector:
  4. • Run/Park
    • High
    • Low

Did any of the circuits measure a short to voltage?

Go to Step 4

  1. Disconnect the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement for access.
  2. Retest the circuit that measured shorted to voltage at the wiper motor connector.

Does the circuit still have a short to voltage condition?

Go to Step 7

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper/washer switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the wiper motor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Repair the short to voltage condition. Refer to Wiring Repairs .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 10

Replace the front wiper/washer switch. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the front wiper motor. Refer to Windshield Wiper Motor Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
