J-45400 Strut Spring Compressor
Removal Procedure
- Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to
Shock Absorber Replacement.
- Use the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent, in order to compress the spring.
- Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod. Remove the upper nut.
- Remove the shock absorber upper insulator retainer (9).
- Remove the shock absorber upper insulator (8).
- Remove the shock absorber upper mount (7).
- Remove the shock absorber lower insulator (6).
- Remove the spring upper insulator (2).
- Use the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent, in order to decompress the spring (3).
- Remove the spring.
- Remove the jounce bumper (5).
- Remove the shock absorber (4).
Installation Procedure
- Install the jounce bumper to the shock absorber.
- Install the spring (1) to the shock absorber. Position the lower tip of the spring on the depression in the lower spring seat (2).
- Use the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent, in order to compress the spring.
- Install the spring upper insulator (2).
- Install the shock absorber lower insulator (6).
Note: The right rear shock mount is the mirror image of the left rear shock mount.
- Install the shock absorber upper mount.
Position the front stud 23.3 degrees (a) from the centerline of the lower bolt hole.
- Install the shock absorber upper insulator.
- Install the shock absorber upper insulator retainer (1). Ensure the retainer is in the correct position.
Note: Do not tighten the nut. Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct before tightening the nut.
- Install the upper nut.
- Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct.
- Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly from the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod. Tighten the nut to
39 N·m (29 lb ft).
- Install the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to
Shock Absorber Replacement.

- Remove the spring.
- Remove the jounce bumper (2).
- Remove the shock absorber (4).
Installation Procedure
- Install the jounce bumper to the shock absorber.
- Install the spring (1) to the shock absorber. Position the lower tip of the spring on the depression in the lower spring seat (2).
- Use the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent, in order to compress the spring.
- Install the spring upper insulator (5).
- Install the shock absorber lower insulator (6).
Note: The right rear shock mount is the mirror image of the left rear shock mount.
- Install the shock absorber upper mount.
Position the front stud 80.6 degrees (a) from the centerline of the lower bolt hole.
- Install the shock absorber upper insulator.
- Install the shock absorber upper insulator retainer (1). Ensure the retainer is in the correct position.
Note: Do not tighten the nut. Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct before tightening the nut.
- Install the upper nut.
- Verify the position of the shock absorber upper mount is correct.
- Remove the spring and shock absorber assembly from the
J-45400 Compressor
, or equivalent.

- Use a wrench in order to hold the piston rod. Tighten the nut to
39 N·m (29 lb ft).
- Install the spring and shock absorber assembly. Refer to
