Diagnostic Instructions

    • Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
    • Review Strategy Based Diagnosis for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
    •  Diagnostic Procedure Instructions provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) turns ON the vehicle stability control (VSC) indicator by closing the VSC indicator control circuit. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) indicator is connected to the GAUGE fuse. This circuit has power when the ignition switch is in the ON or START positions. When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the EBCM turns ON the VSC indicator for 3 seconds for a bulb check. If the EBCM detects a malfunction, the VSC indicator will stay ON to warn the driver that the VSC is disabled and needs service.

Circuit/System Verification

  1. Verify DTC U0073, U0123, U0124, or U0126 are not set.
  2. If DTC U0073, U0123, U0124, or U0126 is set, refer to appropriate DTC.
  3. Verify EBCM connector is secure.
  4. If EBCM connector is not secure, repair EBCM connection
  5. Verify battery voltage is 11-14V.
  6. If battery voltage is not as specified, test charging system, and/or replace battery if necessary.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the EBCM connector.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the CSW circuit and ground.
  3. If less than the specified range, test the circuit for a short to ground. If circuit tests normal, replace the VSC switch.
  4. Using a scan tool, command the IPC display test ON and OFF. The VSC warning indicator should turn ON and OFF.
  5. If IPC does not perform as specified, replace the IPC.
If IPC performs as specified, replace the BPMV/EBCM.
