Removal Procedure
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
- Remove the oil filler cap (1).
- Remove the oil filler cap gasket (1).
- Remove the 2 engine cover joints (1, 2).
- Remove the ignition coils.
- Using a 14 mm spark plug wrench, remove the 4 spark plugs.
- Remove the 2 bolts (1, 2) and 2 camshaft position sensors.
- Remove the 2 bolts (1, 2), O-rings, bracket and 2 oil camshaft timing control valves.
- Remove the 13 bolts (1-13), seal washer and cylinder head cover.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new gasket to the cylinder head cover.
- Apply Three Bond 1217B, or equivalent, GM part number 12378521 (Canadian part number 88901148).
- Install the cylinder head cover with a new seal washer and the bolts (1-13) and tighten to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring (1), then install it onto the camshaft timing oil control valve.
- Install the 2 camshaft timing oil control valves and bracket with the 2 bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Install the camshaft position sensor.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring (1) of the sensor.
- Install the 2 sensors with the 2 bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Using a 14 mm spark plug wrench, install the 4 spark plugs and tighten to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).
- Install the ignition coils.
- Install the 2 engine cover joints (1, 2) and tighten to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Install the oil filler cap gasket (1).
- Install the oil filler cap (1).
- Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
Note:
• Remove any oil from the contact surfaces. • Install the cylinder head cover within 3 minutes and tighten the bolts within 15 minutes after applying seal packing. • Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after the installation.
