Upper Control Arm Replacement All Wheel Drive and GT
Removal Procedure
- Lower the rear suspension support crossmember as an assembly. Refer to
Rear Suspension Support Crossmember Replacement.
- Use paint in order to place match marks on the camber adjust cams (2, 4) and on the crossmember (1, 5).
- Remove the nut (3) from the camber adjust bolt.
- Remove the camber adjust plate from the camber adjust bolt.
- Remove the camber adjust bolt.
- Remove the upper control arm from the crossmember.
Installation Procedure
- If you are replacing the upper control arm, copy the match marks (1, 2, 4, 5) from the old components to the new components.
Note: Do not tighten the nuts or the bolts yet. The weight of the vehicle must be on the tire and wheel assemblies before tightening the nuts and the bolts.
- Align the match marks and install the upper control arm and the camber adjust bolt to the rear suspension crossmember. Install the bolt from the front toward the rear of the vehicle.
- Align the match marks and install the camber adjust plate and the nut to the camber adjust bolt.
- Install the rear suspension support crossmember as an assembly. Refer to
Rear Suspension Support Crossmember Replacement.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle on an alignment rack or a lift that places the weight of the vehicle on the tires. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
- With the weight of the vehicle on the tires, push down on the rear bumper 3 times.
- Align the match marks on the camber adjust bolt and the plate.
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.
- Hold the camber adjust bolt with a wrench and tighten the nut that retains the upper control arm to the crossmember.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 74 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Hold the nut with a wrench and tighten the bolt (1) that retains the upper control arm to the knuckle.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 74 N·m (55 lb ft).
- Measure the wheel alignment. Adjust the wheel alignment if necessary. Refer to
Wheel Alignment Measurement.
- Lower the vehicle.
