General Motors makes available automotive classroom training through the GM Training Centers and colleges.
Course scheduling for GMCL Training Centers, remote and college locations is determined by Dealer Training Needs requested in Technician Activity Monitoring System (TAMS). Dealers register their Training Needs electronically via GM Access. Training is then scheduled when sufficient needs are received to support minimum classroom attendance. Dealers who have entered Needs will receive invitations via GM Access to attend the requested training. Dealers having questions concerning the GMCL training process can directly contact GMCL Training Co-ordinators via the following toll free numbers: 1-800-263-9555 - English or 1-800-263-9770 - French.
GMCL Fleet Training is accomplished through a separate training organization in Canada. Fleets can request training by faxing a document contained in a GMCL brochure - Fleet Training - Your Competitive Advantage - distributed to fleets - FAX No. 905-831-1598. Further information concerning fleet training can be obtained by calling toll free 1-888-456-6660.
The start of the year 2000 brings about a dramatic shift in training as General Motors realigns its service technician training to more effectively support the training needs of today's dealership service personnel. The GM Service Technical College (STC) represents this move away from traditional training techniques to a performance-based system, which incorporates more flexible delivery methods and the latest in training technologies. Technicians will be provided service-technical training through a variety of mediums which include Interactive Distance Learning (IDL), Web-Based Training (WBT), Hands-On Training, and GM Service Know-How instructional videos.
All US dealers enroll in the curriculum utilizing the GM STC Training Management System (TMS) via the web at www.gmstc.com beginning January 2000. The TMS contains various features including:
• | Access to TMS for all dealerships |
• | Enrollment by student through TMS |
• | Course catalog |
• | Reporting capability |
• | Scheduling |
• | Individual Training Plan Functionality |
• | Online testing |
• | Access to help desk for questions |
Should a dealer need assistance with enrollment or have questions regarding the curriculum or the program, please contact the GM STC Help Desk at 1-800-336-0886.
