Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Drive the vehicle above 40 km/h (25 mph).
  2. Press and release the CRUISE ON/OFF button.
  3. Accelerate to the desired speed.
  4. Move the cruise control switch downward to the SET/COAST position and release.
  5. Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.

Does the cruise control system operate normally?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Turn the ignition to OFF.
  2. Disconnect the cruise control switch.
  3. Test for continuity between terminals 2 and 3 of the cruise control switch connector while holding the cruise switch in the ON position.

Did the measurements equal the specified values?

0-2 Ω with switch held ON

Open circuit with switch OFF

Go to Step 4

Measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3 of the cruise control switch connector while holding the cruise switch in the RES/ACC position.

Did the measurements equal the specified value?

210-270 Ω

Measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3 of the cruise control switch connector while holding the cruise switch in the SET/COAST position.

Did the measurements equal the specified value?

560-700 Ω

Measure the resistance between terminals 2 and 3 of the cruise control switch connector while holding the cruise switch in the CANCEL position.

Did the measurements equal the specified value?

1380-1700 Ω

Test for continuity between the cruise control switch connector terminal 3 and a known good ground. Refer to Testing for Continuity .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the cruise control switch and the powertrain control module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Test the cruise control switch signal circuit between the cruise switch and the powertrain control module for a short to ground or and open condition. Refer to Testing for a Short to Voltage and Testing for Short to Ground .

Replace the cruise control switch. Refer to Cruise Control Switch Replacement .
